Learn the art of basket weaving and join facilitator Britt Johnson for a restorative few hours dedicated to creativity. In this class we will be using the fibre raffia to explore the hidden core coiling technique.
Whether you're keen to delve deeper into the realm of basketry or simply seeking to nurture your creative spirit through this calming practice, this workshop is tailored for you.
During the class you will learn how to start, shape, and finish a woven vessel with Madagascan palm raffia.
We will discuss how to dye raffia different colours, how this weaving technique can be used with various materials e.g. Paper twine or fabric, and how you can add extra elements to decorate your basket such as adding fringing.
This workshop is suitable for beginner weavers.
This is an adult open age class but is suitable for ages 12 and up. No previous experience is necessary however children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
All materials and light refreshments will be provided.
