Crochet Granny Squares with crochet artist Alison Thompson.

You’ve begun your crochet journey - now what?

Maybe you are not quite ready to browse the more complex patterns yet, but fancy making a blanket or throw using granny squares?

This technique, once learnt, is a simple yet beautiful pattern that you can make many wonderful creations with. Whether it is one giant granny square blanket or many granny squares sewn together, the end result is something that can be handed down through the generations and loved by many.

This class will teach you the granny square basics, how to start, how to finish, weave ends and more importantly, how to join those little squares together to become something magical. We will work through various joining techniques, along with border samples to show how even the most basic granny square can become part of an intricate and glorious design.

Bring yourself, a little bit of patience and some creativity... the rest is provided by us.

All tools will be provided for this course, including your own hook and a selection of some different fibre choices (acrylic, wool, cotton). You will also receive a simple pattern to try at home using your new skills and a guide that explains all the terminology you will need to read patterns and start creating and drawings to help jog your memory after the class.

Some basic crochet knowledge is valuable to this class. If you can hold a hook and double crochet then you are well on your way to embarking on your granny square journey.

All materials are provided including nibbles & refreshments.
