Learn the wonders and magic of working with indigo dye in our Shibori Workshop.
The fabulous team from Shibori textiles will show you how to use the basics of shibori and tie dye to unlock your inner creative powers. The focus of this class is learning the techniques to achieve the different styles and effects of this beautiful traditional art form.
You will make a variety of fabrics that can be used to make cushions and home decor and a silk scarf as your final project.
This workshop also includes simple Katazome. Katazome is a centuries-old Japanese resist dyeing technique using resist paste which is applied before dye is applied. The resist paste is either stencilled painted or etched on to the cloth. Katazome is a fantastic way to add more detailed patterns to your fabric.
Please wear comfortable non precious clothes and be prepared to get your hands dirty.
Feel free to bring along 1 - 2 pieces of natural fibres (cotton fabrics) that you can upcycle and dye at the end of the class with your new skills. (Please limit to small items in the form of a tea towel, pillow cases, a T Shirt etc (No bed sheets or large items please due to space & time limitations).
Additional dye to take home to continue to practice your new skills, will be available to purchase on the day.
